Whew. Sorry for the delays, but it turns out getting a corporation up and running isn't exactly the easiest job in the world, particularly when you're shit at recruiting and there's only three people in it. Still, I knew the risks when I decided to create it, so there's not much point in bitching about all the challenges it bring, given that it could be a lot worse. At least I'm not dealing with the blowback that a lot of the bigger merc corps are currently having to deal with, though at least they've got the funds and bodies to weather such a fiasco. To say that they've been tearing each other apart lately doesn't even begin to cover it, and that's not even getting into all the sabotage.
Apparently, a lot of mercenaries have been secretly hopping corps in order to spy for their own ones, and then fuck things up when the time is right. Whenever the time comes for a battle to gain or lose a district, they sign up for it, then either open fire on their own team or do a grand total of jack and shit the whole round. Pretty damned devious, and I've been hearing cries from the officers in a lot of those same corps for CONCORD or the people who design our software or...well, anyone to do something about it. The whole thing is probably more amusing than it should be to me, especially considering that I doubt I'd be laughing too much about it myself if I were actually in one of those corporations. But I'm not, so fuck 'em. Besides, it breeds business for me, and god knows I could use it.
Got a vid-call from the Doc the other day, asking me about the next time I'd be visiting. Well, I say it was him, but it was more like the Doc opened the call while Vena cried and begged and pleaded for me to come over again. Christ on a crutch, I've seen dying Mercs that didn't sounds nearly as desperate for a revival as this little girl was to have me see her again, so it kinda wound up being a weird mix of touching and funny. Somehow, I managed to keep a straight face long enough to assuage her fears that I wouldn't be visiting again before promising to bring more candy, which elicited a groan from the Doc, but I think it beats seeing her sad in the long run. Didn't peg an exact date down, but I figure that it'll make a nice break from all the battling soon enough. Still, it was good to hear from her again, even if she does seem to have more energy than an overcharged scrambler rifle.
Speaking of battles, they seem to have become a lot more fast-paced lately, or at least the straight-out deathmatch ones have. Maybe it's just because of the bigger proliferation of powerful guns and shitty suits, or maybe the reduced time it takes for a body transfer, or...shit, I dunno. Even a random-ass contracts with people from no-name corps seems to end a lot quicker than they used to, which, on the whole I can't exactly say I'm against. The faster they end, the more I can get to in a day, and the more cash I rack up. Kaz claims they've finally worked out most of the kinks with heavy dropsuits, and as far as I can tell from our battles he's pretty much right. He's not invincible by any means, but with the right modules thrown on it takes a lot more to kill him than it does to kill me, and I've nearly gotten shot in the head a few times from watching him mow down idiots.
Finally remembered to throw the plasma cannon onto a new suit as well, and tested it out. It's very...situational, I think. Almost like a close range forge gun, but without the speed. Unless your target is either a heavy, a tank, or stationary, odds are you're not likely to hit anyone with it without a ludicrous amount of skill on your part, a large amount of idiocy on theirs. Maybe it was just because I was using a basic model, but it didn't seem to do as much damage as I thought it would either. Ah well, there's still plenty of other armaments for me to pick off assholes with.
Anyway, here's to hoping the corp picks up, though short of a fucking miracle I doubt it'll happen any time soon.
