For the record, I am far too young, I think to be called "Aunt Rinas," and yet that's exactly what I walked into today upon finding the Doc's place. After walking up at a half-decent time and drinking my breakfast, a quick jaunt around the station had me loaded up with enough candy to kill a man. One shuttle trip later had me wandering around their station like an idiot until I finally figured out how to use my navigator and locate their place. Vena leapt upon me as though she was attempting to shield me from a locus grenade as I walked through the doorway, and after I managed to pry her off I got my first look at the rest of my therapist's family. Doc's husband was a large man, definitely damn sight more built than him, yet he still retained a sense of intelligence and dignity that I've found in approximately one percent of the people I've met. A firm handshake later and I learned his name was Arkei.
Hiding behind his pant leg was a girl who looked roughly a year or two younger than Vena, wide green eyes staring at me shyly. Arkei introduced her as Aryaeka, though to most she was simply known as Arya. I gave a slight wave, but apparently that was all it took to send her scurrying into her room. Still, as she ran I couldn't help but notice a similarity; curly black locks of hair bouncing up and down that seemed fairly similar to Arkei's. I was told that until recently she'd been living with her mother whom Arkei had divorced, and she'd been...less than diligent in her treatment of little Arya. Vena was kind enough to wait until introductions were over until she leapt upon me again, forcing me to coerce her off with promises of candy if she'd allow me a moment of peace.
After managing to get through the entryway, I slipped Vena a sweet to go supercharge on before sitting down for some coffee with Arkei. Apparently he'd been married once before he met my therapist, to a woman that had turned out to be an outrageous alcoholic. Two years later he'd had Arya along with more fights and screaming matches than he could care to remember, three months after that they'd finally split up, with Arya at first staying with her mother for the majority of the time. It wasn't until he'd gone for a visit to pick her up and saw the mother's apartment completely wrecked, herself drunken and belligerent, that he'd finally decided to fight to have her permanently. It had been a long, frustrating battle, but more than worth it to know his little girl was alright, he said. The smile on his face almost left me melting, just the tiny bit envious at Arya for having such an awesome dad.
It was around this point that I was treated to watching Vena drag her sister into their living room, the poor thing frozen in terror at the sight of me. It wasn't until she was scooped up into her father's waiting lap that I saw her ease up, though her eyes didn't leave me for a second, even as he asked her to say hello. Figuring that the best way to break the ice was with an offering of my own, I pulled a second piece of candy out of my pocket, slowly offering the treat as I moved my hand forward. She still seemed to be cautious of me, but that tiny piece of sugar at least let her believe I wasn't there to viciously devour her, or whatever. I asked about Doc, and learned he was busy with another patient, though he'd probably turn up before dinner. I asked if he was a stay at home dad, and interestingly enough found out he was a supervisor at a major weapons manufacturing plant.
Not gonna lie, if the little ones hadn't been there I might've started screaming, but as it is I managed to convince them to go and play before I began to pump him for info. Apparently some shit-quality metals had been slipped into the latest batches of weaponry, just in time for the new software version, and that had been why everything besides assault rifles and shotguns were now complete crap. He wasn't privy to the details, but a few capsuleers had gotten blown up over the whole thing. They were working on getting free replacements out now, but said it'd still take a little bit of time. I gave a nod, sipping my coffee as I wondered if this was a lie intended to keep me from crushing his ribcage, but ultimately decided if he'd wanted to stay safe he'd have just lied about his job in the first place. I gave him a nod before moving onto other topics, and we chatted most of the day away, with occasional moments punctuated by me giving the kids more and more candy. It didn't take long until Arya had gotten over her fright of me, even if she wasn't quite as...energetic, as her sister. Things stayed pretty casual until the Doc finally got home.
Alright, sorry diary, but it's getting late and I need to order some shit before I go into tomorrow's contracts. I'll write the rest of it tomorrow, though!
