There's something to be said for the power to give life. I don't know if the people who originally made the implants we're using now thought that they were, though if they did then I'd correct them. Being immortal isn't so much a chance at a second (or third, or twentieth) chance at living so much as it is a denial of the death that should follow afterwards. I can see how some would consider it an extension of their own life, but in my eyes it's simply a quick "Fuck You" to the looming darkness before we pop back into the world we're familiar with.

Life isn't so precious these days. There's countless numbers of people spread out across all the empires and their planets, not to mention the shitloads of people up in space, either as private citizens like myself, the people who maintain the space stations, or the pilots both capsuleer and non. A million of us could die tomorrow and it'd be a tragedy, but New Eden would keep functioning. Particularly if most of people killed were mercs or capsuleers, since, y'know, the whole bodyswapping bit.

So we pick and choose. We find and choose friends to share ourselves with, and ultimately care about. We pick and choose (or I do, at least) which family to to monitor, to help out when the going gets tough, and generally that's about it. I don't imagine that most of us don't care about the poor or the otherwise less well-off either, it's just that we've got so much shit constantly going on in our lives that interfering with another just for the hell of it would require time we simply don't have. Shit, I'm guilty of it. If I'm not spending my boatloads of money on equipment or the simple things like coffee and web access than I'm sending it to my family, and even then I tell myself all sorts of things to keep myself from sending too much. "I don't want to spoil them, I don't want anyone to get suspicious and come after them again, If I spend too much I might throw off the planet's economy, etc." That...last one could possibly be true, I don't know how much the GDE is, but the rest of it simply stems from a mixture of laziness and greed. Greed that's actually served me pretty well against most of the "deals" my goddamned screen shoves down my throat every day, but that doesn't excuse my actions elsewhere. I've got shitloads of ISK just sitting there, so why shouldn't I help out people every now and then? Even if it's only a little, every bit helps and what would I have used it on anyway? More guns? I've got enough of those to outfit a small corp by this point.

*Sigh* Mo'money, mo'problems.

-End Log.

(Okay folks, the reason I wrote this today is because I learned that a certain C.E.O. of Sver True Blood, Quickgloves, recently had a son! And I'm excited for the new addition to his family. However, said son was born early with some complications. Expensive complications. Like, really damned expensive complications. So he and his family have set up a link to donate here. The original thread where I found this ((and that explains it better than I did)) can be found here. Please, regardless of your feelings about SVER, the more money they get, the more you can help this little guy pull through. And even if you don't like them, ponder this; If he lives, then Quickgloves will be too busy being a dad to come play Dust!)
