So, on a whim I decided to buy a few anti-armor things, like swarm launchers and roadmines and shit, then slap them together to create a mediocre (if cost effective) anti-vehicle dropsuit. I'm not sure if I was extremely lucky or just had a bit of clairvoyance, but the contract I took immediately after lead me to wrecking murdertaxis and with the help of a tank we even managed to destroy a few of those transport ships that they use to bring in our vehicles. My jaw nearly dropped at the amount I got paid afterward, and so I can definitely say I wished I'd made a dropsuit like this sooner. Between destroy two tanks, four murdertaxis, and one of those transport ships there isn't a chance in hell I'll be destroying the setup I've got for this suit.
Meanwhile, drama and intrigue abound as merc corps swallow each other up, new ones spring up, and newbies bitch about how hard killing each other is. Not the psychological aspect of it, which I could halfway understand, but that their peers like myself are just too damned good to be able to have a chance against us. It's hard for me to really comment, given that I started out just as the whole mercenaries and proxy war shit was coming together, but the cynic in me wants to think they're just not using their brains. Tactics and maneuvering can give even the greenest merc a fighting chance against everyone save a heavy or someone decked out in proto-gear, and even then that's only if they're in cheap militia shit themselves.
Speaking of newbies, the lazy bitch in me is rather happy that we've got a fairly steady supply of green as grass mercs to grind on. Is it bad of me to enjoy mowing down these poor guys and gals who might as well be shooting paint guns and have tissue paper for armor? Probably. But like to think of it as more hardcore training. Those kiddy contracts they put newbies into doesn't really prepare them for the brutal reality of New Eden, much less for the real contract battles out here. Hell, I still chuckle a little when I remember the live-fire "exercises" I had to go through back when they were still testing us out. Nothing can really prepare you for the sound, the chaos, the thrill as you rush towards what will inevitably be a certain death, wondering how many of them (if any) you're able to take out...
Whew. I just got a chill from that. I think I'm gonna pass out before I excite myself too much and wind up pulling an all-nighter.
