It's been a little while since I posted some shit to help out fellow mercs...mainly because this is a private diary, so it's not like anyone besides me reads this, but it can't hurt to get my own sources in order here, right? Like that A.I. said, being a merc means preparing for the battle before that first shot is ever fired, and while I like to pretend I'm some kind of expert on how to play, the truth of the matter is that I'd probably rank barely above-average at best. Besides, anyone who only sticks to one source for advice is an idiot.
Anyway, I've compiled a list of sites and video series to help the beguiling merc that could use a bit of help out on the battlefield, along with a couple ones that can also help out a more advanced merc looking to get into some heavier work, or just likes to look up the statistics of all our shit.
First up on the list is the Mittani, a site run by the titular capsuleer that also has a number of other of his ilk working under him. Thankfully, it tends to hire people of differing opinions to ensure that no matter what nation you come from or corporation you swear allegiance to, there will undoubtedly be an article you will want to bitch about. But seriously, it does a fine job of providing information across everything from the history of New Eden and its four empires, to the continual warfare that takes place way out in space and down on the ground. Whether you've just donned a dropsuit or capsule or have been murdering your way across the star cluster for years, it's a good place to read up on current events as well as some older happenings. Oh, and they've branched out as well. Something about reporting a legendary league or something? I dunno.
Next up on the list is a little site known simply as Dust Reports. which is a bit more narrow in the content they bring to the table, but no less important to those who are actually interested in it. DR manages to provide a map of the continual clusterfuck that is Molden Heath, while also providing information regarding what alliances, districts, and other factors are currently feeding into that enormous pile of drama and bullets. For those who prefer the big events of it boiled down, there's also the column title,"I Hate It Here," penned by someone under the name Spider Jerusalem. While a bit more...opinionated than the graphs and maps that make up most of their info, it's a great way to go over the upheavals and endless takeovers, mergers, and general warfare that occurs in the sector in a much smaller, bite-sized format.
On the whole, I can't say I'd recommend Dust Report to a green merc, but it's a great tool for anyone, merc or not, that's experienced enough to understand the ongoing clusterfuck that is Molden Heath, whether they're looking to hop into the action, take a look at current events before they make a decision, or just want an interesting story for the day.
Last up (for now) is a blog run by a Mr. David G Barrett, who chronicles his thoughts on New Eden in a fashion that manages to be both thought-provoking as well as amusing. Whether it's the ups and downs regarding weapon manufacturing that seem to occur rather frequently, or the bitching and moaning one tends to hear from WAY too many mercs, he's got a rather well thought out comment for nearly everything, and while I can't say I agree with him on every issue, I definitely wouldn't mind getting his back out on the battlefield.
I've got a few more other sources I should probably jot down while I'm at it, but it's late and I've already written quite a bit. Can't do my best on the battlefield if I don't have a good night's sleep, or so I tell myself to justify sleeping for ten hours.
